Biggles

 

If you like flying adventurous stories, you would have definitely heard of Biggles. This is the name given to an exceptional flying hero born out of the imagination of WE Johns.  Biggles was introduced to the world for the first time in 1932, when a story titled "The White Fokker" was published.

Biggles was created especially with young boys in mind, meant not only to entertain but also glorify young pilots who fought in the war. Casualties were high during the World War I because at that time there were no parachutes, respirators or such type of protective equipment and the adventures of Biggles helped in portraying them as heroes as it added glamour and fame to the occupation.

Captain WE John initially based the adventures of his stories on his own experiences in the war, though he had been flying as a bomber while Biggles flew scouts. John was very painstaking about the historical details while concentrating on the early days of flying.
